The updated play, based on Nodar Dumbadze’s novel “Me, Grandma, Iliko and Illarion”, will be shown at the capital’s Gradsky Hall Theatre. This was reported by the press service of the cultural institution.
The plot of the book tells about a boy named Zuriko, who lives with his grandmother in the village, and the old men who live next door – Iliko and Illarion – help raise him. The main character gradually grows up, experiences various adventures and learns about life. The humorous work is largely based on the writer’s life: in 1937, his father died, and his mother and two brothers were exiled to the Gulag. After that, Dumbadze had to move to the village to live with relatives.
Screenings will take place in Gradsky Hall on November 12 and 17 and December 22 and 23. The director of the production is Georgiy Iobadze, who also plays a key role in the play.
I even approached Tatyana Doronina, but she said that Dumbadze should direct the Georgians: “If you find a director, come.” I couldn’t find anyone, so I decided to take on this project myself. This is how this performance emerged, evolving, transforming and finally coming into being,” Iobadze recalls.
