In his YouTube program “Besogon-TV”, director Nikita Mikhalkov called immigrant actor Anatoly Bely a traitor because of his name change.
“He committed two betrayals. First, he betrayed his homeland, which gave him everything: education, fame, money, the opportunity to live comfortably,” Mikhalkov said.
According to the director, Bely spent eight years making his name and money in Russia. According to Mikhalkov, Bely committed a second betrayal when he changed his real surname Vaisman to the creative surname Bely. He believes that the actor chose a more harmonious surname to win over Russian viewers. Mikhalkov also reprimanded Bely for “condemnation” during the tour of the Lenkom Theater in Israel.
“He absolutely understands: When the show comes to Israel, its level will be below the norm. Because this is the great Russian culture, to which a person who betrays his Motherland and family is not worthy. And instead of helping his fellow citizens see high art, he does everything to prevent this from happening,” Mikhalkov concluded.
