Oppenheimer and Interstellar writer Christopher Nolan has been named best director of the past 25 years by Rotten Tomatoes. Representatives announced that area with a link to the survey.

64 directors who took the stage for the first time since 1998 participated in the survey. These include filmmakers like Taika Waititi (Real Ghouls, Thor: Ragnarok), Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream), Sofia Coppola (The Godfather, Lost in Translation), Bong Joon Ho (“Parasite”, “Snowpiercer) “), Greta Gerwig (“Barbie”, “Little Women”), Damien Chazelle (“La La Land”, “Obsession”).

Two directors made it to the finale: Christopher Nolan and Denis Villeneuve (“Blade Runner 2049”, “Dune”). Nolan defeated Villeneuve only 56% to 44%. Nearly 30,000 votes were cast in the final round, according to the site.

Nolan made his directorial debut with The Stalking. His second film, Remember, was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. Since then, the director’s films have been nominated for 28 Oscars.

On July 21, 2023, the world premiere of Nolan’s movie Oppenheimer took place. The biography describes Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy), an American physicist and creator of the atomic bomb. Cast: Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Gary Oldman, Rami Malek, Kenneth Branagh and Josh Hartnett.
