The event took place on August 25, 2023 at the Catherine the Great Palace in Tsarskoe Selo. It was created on the model of the Dresden Opera Ball to revive the famous Petrovsky Assemblies as an important part of the Russian cultural code set by Peter I.
Oksana Fedorova and Artistic Director of the Petrovsky Ball and Hans-Joachim Frei, President of the Dresden Opera Ball, hosted the evening.
“18. and 19th century St. Petersburg was the center of ballroom culture. This beautiful tradition, which had a central place in Tsarist Russia, was followed by France and Austria with admiration. By organizing the Petrovsky Ball, we want to revive it and teach young people to dance in accordance with the protocol of this important event dedicated to cultural and social heritage,” said Hans-Joachim Frei.
The purpose of the event is to introduce guests to historical traditions, especially ballroom dancing, protocol and etiquette. Visitors can listen to live music, take a tour, and attend an exhibition of the Russian Military Historical Society’s Petrine Assemblies.
In the night, artists Ildar Abdrazakov, Ramiz Usmanov, Igor Butman and Moscow Jazz Orchestra, Elena Bezgodkova, Pavel Milyukov, Northern Symphony Orchestra and German disco group Dschinghis Khan took the stage. The latter showcased the hit Moskau in wigs and costumes stylized like 18th century clothing.
Previously The Russians received vocal training and got into the record books.
