The director of the biopic about rock and roll king Elvis Presley Sofia Coppola “Priscilla” admitted that he did not get permission to use the musician’s songs. She expressed this in an interview Hollywood Reporter.

“They don’t like projects they didn’t create themselves. They protect their brand,” said the director.

At the same time, as Coppola emphasized, the ban forced the creators of the biopic to be more creative when choosing the music for the project. The film will feature classical songs sung by the director’s wife, musician Thomas Marse.

The film will premiere at the Venice Film Festival in early September. It will be released widely on October 27. The film is based on the 1985 memoir Elvis and Me: The True Love Story of Priscilla Presley and the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. The director of the project, Sofia Coppola, wrote an adapted screenplay and produced it with Yuri Henley and Lorenzo Mieli.

The main roles in the tape were played by Caylee Spaeny (“Bad Times at El Royale”) and Jacob Elordi (“Euphoria”).
