Matt Damon Says Ben Affleck’s Grandfather Helped Prep For Oppenheimer Role independent wire.

In Nolan’s movie, Damon played Leslie Richard Groves, a US Army lieutenant general and one of the military leaders of the Manhattan Project. According to the actor, Ben Affleck’s grandfather, the best WWII veteran, helped him get used to the role.

“I remember talking to Ben’s grandfather and he told me a lot about that time. He also talked about how the military reacted to the creation of the atomic bomb and the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He said that at first he was very happy because he believed the military did everything right. But after a while, he was horrified when he saw the results. Damon said that for the last 50 years he had lived with the bombing, a feeling of shame that he had lived with that moment.

Oppenheimer by Christopher Nolan was released worldwide on July 20, 2023. Cillian Murphy played the role of “father of the atomic bomb” Robert Oppenheimer in the film.
