The Mariinsky Theater announced the month of German composer Richard Wagner in honor of the 210th anniversary of his birth. This is proven by the program area theatre.

According to the schedule, most of the performances will be directed by Valery Gergiev, general director of the Mariinsky Theatre. The main event will be the premiere of the three-act opera The Mastersingers of Nuremberg. The show will take place on July 21.

The Mariinsky Theater will screen the opera Tannhäuser on July 17, the drama Tristan and Isolde on July 24, and the mystery opera Parsifal on July 25.

In addition, works from the composer’s tetralogy Der Ring des Nibelungen will be performed within the framework of the Wagner Month. Among them are “Gold of the Rhine” and “Valkyrie”.

In March, it became known that on September 23, the Russian director Kirill Serebrennikov. will present Premiere of Wagner’s Lohengrin at the Bastille Opera (Paris, France). The three-act performance directed by Serebrennikov, lasting four hours and 20 minutes, will be screened in German, with French and English subtitles. The performance will feature mezzo-soprano Yekaterina Gubanova, South Korean bass Kwanchul Yun and the lead role will be played by Polish tenor Piotr Bechal.
