It’s only been four months since the ‘Pureza’ tour in Parallel 62 closed and they already have new material. There is no intermediate year.
I’m not that type. On days off, I do this ‘Alto cielo’ epé between concerts. I am also preparing an album. But I realized that those four songs responded to a very clear concept and I couldn’t integrate them into the LP, they would get lost there. And I wanted to make a movie.
‘Alto cielo’, a 15-minute video album that tells a story.
Born between the 80s and 2000s, we are a generation that no longer believes in love. We experienced how divorce became normal, and we saw grandmothers endure and mothers say “so far”. And we made it common to talk about polygamy and open relationships, but eventually everyone falls in love, even those who don’t believe in love.
After all, the most revolutionary thing is to fall in love.
Total. Let it go. I don’t think ending a relationship means you have a sense of ownership; You just decided to be wary of someone. In this epé, I wanted to show that we dare to experience love, knowing it won’t work, because there is a break in everyone’s destiny, and we’re used to a capitalism of love and bodies: a short affair no matter what for the next It just confirms us: more sex, more love consume. And we forget that we are in love. That’s what’s happening in this epee.
The four songs go through different stages, from the fear of falling in love to the balance of the broken relationship.
The last song, ‘Aurora’, represents realizing that you are lucky to be able to love. All this fire remains candle, because there is always something from all love. And it’s nice to have lived it.
Is this message aimed at young people?
Yes, because there is a gap there. I see this in my friends who have to go out every week to have sex. And you are no more free for that. Just sex is overrated. It’s good to dare to fall in love and be wrong and experience intense emotions.
Now that Tik Tok has decided the fate of music, you’re betting on a relatively long and tedious format.
You have to try to distinguish things. Just like dancers are making careers and tiktokers are just doing little dances, you can record beautiful videos with your mobile phone, but there are people who read movies. It was very important for me to give new actors and actresses a chance and not look for my already well off friends. And without focusing on me, bringing up the idea that artists can be 360º leading projects without having to be consumer images.
There is no Cuban influence in this recording and on the other hand it is quite electronic.
“Don’t save me” with a tango, “Aurora” with a baton. I didn’t include too many electronic items in ‘Purity’ so that it wouldn’t be too much. ‘Alto cielo’ is not collecting the beautiful things I find, but collecting what I have planted in my garden. I was a Camarón fan and came here listening to La Niña de los Peines and Bernarda and Fernanda de Utrera. And Missy Elliott, Queen Latifah, Christina Aguilera… Even if I transform and recreate, I always look for the root.
Does it appeal to you to try to revolutionize music?
I think we do that, but what is a revolution? I do not dare to say that I am a revolutionary, but this generation is. But all generations are revolutionaries. What not happened? That was rock’n’roll. There are also familiar faces and many people behind them: composers, producers, arrangers… There are many people who are invisible in music.
You talk about the community, but you have a certain star and diva profile in the public eye.
So am I. I’m the queen of the stage! False humility is for other people. Can’t I say I’m fine after the time I’ve worked? I know there’s something magical going on when I get on top of it, and I’m working hard to make something so well done. I’m talking about the community, but I know I was the one leading that project. I got up and went to bed thinking about it.
