Interplanetary File System

Censoring access to Wikipedia, banning certain types of information, or restricting artistic expression because what is said in it is not good for the current government are increasingly repetitive actions that I hope we don’t get used to. A big problem with the Internet today: centralization that leads to control and censorship.

Interplanetary File System

The network as we know it works by storing data on huge servers managed by companies. The Internet centrally records all our movements on these machines. In addition to the censorship, there is the fact that some of these huge information storage devices can – accidentally or not – malfunction and therefore it is impossible to access websites, blogs, files of any kind. a vital infrastructure for our way of life?

Just think how upsetting it would be if someone thought of deleting Wagner from the internet – sticking to the musical field – just because he was Hitler’s favorite composer and shared the same ideas, albeit at different times. You don’t need a lot of imagination. This is already happening. There are internet users in Poland who will not encounter Russian classical composers by chance, thanks to the central system. Will this issue end here?

Since 2015 there is the Interplanetary File System (IPFS)/Interplanetary File System. A decentralized system that allows the storage of all kinds of files, posts on the web, blogs, social networks, videos, etc. Everything that can be found in the central internet of large servers. This protocol works just like Bitorrent does: we ask it to find a file for us, they find 2who2 – in plural – and send it to us in its entirety among all computers containing part of that file. This system is called Peer-to-Peer/Person to Person (P2P). None of these networked computers contain full files. Everyone has a little piece. We connect to each of these computers to download the relevant part of each. There is no central server where the information I’m looking for comes from. In this case, in the case of the decentralized Internet, the question is asked who has the information I’m looking for, regardless of our computer, phone, device we use. The answer is: all these computers. When it comes to the protocol used by the internet we all know, the question is: Where is the information I’m looking for? The answer is in huge servers managed by companies. We’ll download the entire file we’re looking for and save it where we see fit. When we connect to the IPFS network, we will have contributed to the part that corresponds to us. Many people think democratizing the Web might be the solution. It is true that it is decentralized and open source like blockchain, but it is not the same thing.

I recommend you to watch the explanatory video of artificial intelligence (AI) expert Carlos Santana on the working of blockchain/blockchain again. I’m going to talk about how you can convert any information you need to an IPFS file for free, from press articles, information on official pages, your blog about plants, notes you need to save for the future, to saving. from a possible censorship video. I suggest transferring information from central internet to decentralized internet. All you have to do is download the free and completely reliable Dara extension from http://bit.ly/DARA-X. Once this is done we will copy the link to the page we are on, click on the yellow icon and the dashboard/home screen will automatically appear, the list of files transferred to the Interplanetary File System network. If this is your first time, the dashboard will appear with blank boxes, click to paste the link you copied and that’s it. The videos, photos, information you convert into an IPFS file will always be at hand as a cloud, while collaborating to decentralize communication. Free.
