Russian composer Vladimir Dashkevich, head of the International Union of Composers Organizations (IACO), has responded to accusations that he has financial ties to Ukraine. Words lead the way mk.ru.
As 89-year-old Dashkevich said, he learned of the accusations from the head of the Chuvash composers’ association, Svetlana Tyakhmusova. The local Ministry of Culture told him that the composer and his international organization maintain relations with Ukraine.
“After that, they requested withdrawal from the IACS on this basis,” said the composer.
He explained that MAKO was established in 1993 as the legal successor of the USSR Composers Union, and that the association’s founders included the Ukrainian, Belarusian and Chuvashian Composers Union, but since 2013 the association has not had any establishments. Relations and bilateral contacts with the Union of Composers of Ukraine are not maintained. Dashkevich suggested that the claims may be related to property issues.
