The administrative fine was handed over to the Wikimedia Foundation by Timur Vakhrameev, magistrate of judicial district 422 in Moscow’s Tagansky district. It has been reported interfax.
“For appointing Wikimedia Foundation Inc. penalty in the form of an administrative fine in the amount of 3 million rubles,” announced the decision.
The foundation was fined, found guilty of not deleting information subject to deletion – articles on special operations events of the Russian armed forces that took place in the Kharkiv region on the territory of Ukraine were not removed from the site.
In 2023, Wikimedia received its eighth fine for not removing deleteable content.
Wikimedia’s lawyer asked the court to end the trial, pointing out that there were no elements and events of the crime as well as the procedural violations in the proceedings.
Roskomnadzor declaration 147 previously banned material had not been removed from Wikipedia. The ministry declared that materials that allegedly promoted suicide, extremism, terrorism and suicidal behavior, false information about the course of a special military operation (SVO) in Ukraine, information discrediting the Russian Armed Forces, have not been eliminated.
