Novel

  • “The Red Manuscript” (1990). His first novel, for which he won the Planeta Prize, is a fictional autobiography of Boabdil, the last Nasrid king. It is built on what is supposed to be a dark red manuscript, which is the color of the paper used by the Alhambra Chancellery.
  • “Turkish Passion” (1993). It tells the passionate love story between Desideria, a Spanish Fine Arts teacher, who has a routine life with her husband, and the guide she met on a trip to Yaman, Turkey, with her friends. It was successfully adapted for the cinema in 1994, starring Ana Belén, by Vicente Aranda.
  • “Beyond the Garden” (1995). Subtitled “A woman in search of herself”, Gala uses contemporary Seville and particularly the remnants of its former Seville splendid surroundings as a setting. Concha Velasco starred in the 1996 film adaptation directed by Pedro Olea.

Theatre

  • “Green Fields of Heaven” (1963). The National Calderón de la Barca Award was screened with José Bódalo in the lead role in the Gala’s first play, María Guerrero. It is a redemption story starring Juan, a free spirit who returns to his grandparents’ town with no other purpose than to live in peace.
  • “Rings for a Lady” (1973). National Prize for Literature, Audience, and Critic María Asquerino was swept away as Antonio Gala’s muse for this work about Doña Jimena after El Cid’s death. Amparo Rivelles will also take part in this huge theatrical success.
  • “Gift Petra” (1980). Julia Gutiérrez Caba, along with other legendary actors such as Aurora Redondo and Ismael Merlo, brought to life Petra, a prostitute in rural Spain who rebelled against oppression.

  • “Near enemy” (1959). “There are afternoons when everything/Smells of burnt juniper/And the scent of the Promised Land” begins with the poem that gives its name to this work, read together by a young man. Antonio Gala won second prize in the Adonáis poetry prize.
  • “Love poems” (1997). When this book was published, Gala announced that she had collected “most, if not all, of my love poems”, describing it as “a secret in the ear between two people: writer and reader.”
  • “Tobías’ soulless poem” (2005). Its author described the story of a “love journey” that was “like a novel” because it had “a very direct and explanatory poem that anyone could understand”, and that in it traveled “outside Oceania and all over the world, including Córdoba”. about this job
