‘Route 66’ actor George Maharis dies

Highway 66 actor George Maharis passed away on May 24 at the age of 94. This was reported on Facebook by his friend Mark Bakhan (the owner of Meta was considered an extremist in Russia and was banned).

“George is known for his role on Highway 66, stage productions, singing, and other acting work, and most of all, as a great guy who would do anything for anyone. Dear friend, we will miss you very much,” wrote a friend of the actress.

Maharis was born on September 1, 1928, in Astoria, New York. She studied at the acting studio and played in theatrical productions for a long time. In 1958, Maharis played her first screen role in the movie The Robber. The actor also starred in the films “The Naked City”, “Exit”, “In Search of Tomorrow” and many more. In 1960, she landed the role of Baz Murdoch in Stirling Silliphant’s Highway 66, for which she was nominated for an Emmy Award. Maharis had to leave the show in the middle of the third season due to health issues.

Later, Sylvia acted in movies and TV series such as Covenant with Death, Happening, Night Gallery, Medical Center, Deadliest Game, Mission Impossible, Barnaby Jones, “Shaft” and others. The last film of the Maharis was Doppelganger in 1993, directed by Avi Neshara and starring Drew Barrymore and George Newbern.
