The driver of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra monastery was accused by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) of supporting Russia’s actions. DEA News Based on the Ministry’s report.
The accusation was made following the results of a language review that allegedly confirmed the driver’s statements about the country’s state security. According to the SBU, the man “rejected Russian armed aggression and justified the seizure of Ukrainian territory.”
According to the investigation, the suspect named “Crimean Russians” in a comment he made on one of the Ukrainian television channels in April 2023. The sanction of the relevant article foresees a prison sentence of up to five years with or without the confiscation of property.
The issue of choosing a restraining measure for the driver is now being decided.
At the end of March, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine announced the termination of the lease, which required the monks to leave the monastery. The UOC priests refused to comply with these demands, and both parties went to court.
The priests were ordered to leave the walls of the Lavra by March 29.
On April 1, it was reported that the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra filed a lawsuit against the inhabitants of the Lavra and believers in the UOC near the walls of the monastery for inciting religious hatred from the organizers of the provocation.
