Queen Charlotte: The Bridgerton Story, a mini-series prequel to Shonda Rhimes’ famous costume The Bridgertons, was watched for 148.28 million hours in the first four days of its release on Netflix on May 4. This is evidenced by data published by the online cinema itself.
According to IndieWire, Queen Charlotte’s performance lags behind other popular Netflix productions in 2023: the action thriller The Night Agent (168 million hours at release), the second season of the dramatic Jeannie and Georgia (180 million hours), and the third season of adventure adventure program “Outer Banks” (154 million hours). But the newspaper is worth considering that we’re talking about ten-episode seasons in all three cases, while Queen Charlotte only has six episodes.
IndieWire points out that the series’ success has been determined by the massive popularity of both seasons of the original Bridgerts, which remains one of the service’s most-watched shows (625 million hours for the first season and 656 hours for the second season). (“Netflix’s last” views are based on 28 days from posting.)
According to the show’s plot, young Charlotte, who is betrothed against her will to British monarch George III, arrives in London, where it is revealed that members of the royal family are not the person they expected to see. Settling into her new court, society, and marriage, Charlotte becomes one of Europe’s most flamboyant monarchs.
Previously Netflix, Rowan Atkinson’s Man vs. He canceled the Bee after its first season.
