Mikhail Shevchuk’s romantic thriller “MaskErad” debuted at the Russian box office.
The film’s press release states that “MaskErad” is a bold adaptation of Mikhail Lermontov’s play “Masquerade” about passion, immorality and the inevitable payoff for sins. The authors of the picture set the goal of creating a tape that would be interesting to a wide audience, especially young people.
The action of the work is transferred to modern realities. The picture tells about the love triangle between the experienced sniper Arbenin, his wife Nina and the young actor Prince Zvezdich.

Actor Spivakovsky, who played the role of Kart sharp Kazarin, considered the film adaptation of classic works a great idea. He stated that it is necessary to instill a love of classical in young people.
“And thanks to our film, one of them will probably take a volume of Lermontov off the shelf and discover something new for himself. And of course, it’s great that our story is told in Lermontov’s text, but in modern language! It seems to me that it will be really cool if the young guys become the main audience of Maskerad! said Spivakovsky.
