The actor was seen holding a backwards weapon. Filming of the western resumed after Baldwin was cleared of the manslaughter charge of cinematographer Galina Hutchins. Filming for The Rust was moved from New Mexico to the Yellowstone Film Ranch set in Montana’s Paradise Valley, where Hutchins died.

Baldwin initially faced up to five years in prison, which was later reduced to 18 months. It was announced that a re-investigation could be opened into the death of the operator.
