Director and actor Fyodor Bondarchuk admitted in an interview with 7 Days that he likes to voice Leshy in the new cartoon Yaga and the Book of Spells.

“My hero is grumpy, I might even say belligerent. At the same time, he is not bad-hearted, but good-hearted. Where he can play a little heroically. The character is ambiguous and his voice acting is very interesting. Yes, and our Yaga is not so scary, even funny somewhere, ”said Bondarchuk.

The director stated that he was interested in “discovering” Baba Yaga’s history. Bondarchuk wants to know how the fairy tale character “sinked” into the witch’s life. According to the actor, the film will show why Baba Yaga has become the main antagonist of many Slavic tales.

The cartoon, shot with the support of the Cinema Fund, will be released on April 27, 2023. The premiere of the film will be held on April 22 at the Oktyabr cinema as part of the 45th MIFF’s non-competition program.
