Australian comedian Barry Humphries, best known for his role as Dame Edna Everage on stage, has died. He was 89 years old. It has been reported Variation.

The satirist died in an Australian hospital in Sydney. He was suffering from complications after having surgery in March.

Barry Humphreys was born on February 17, 1934, in the suburb of Melbourne. First appearing in the image of Lady Edna Everage in 1955, this image eventually became one of the most popular images in Australia and beyond. Humphreys was awarded a special theatrical Tony Award in 2000 for the Broadway show Dame Edna: The Royal Tour, and was nominated for the satirical Laurence Olivier Award in 2014.
