The official poster of the 76th Cannes Film Festival was published on the event website. In the frame, actress Catherine Deneuve appeared on the set of the film “Surrender” by Alain Cavalier (1968).
“For over 60 years, the biggest French star has never stopped making films and auditioning. Deneuve embodies, in its own way, the richness of the cinema that the festival preserves,” says the Cannes Film Festival website. It is also stated that the frame with Deneuve symbolizes timelessness and daring.
The main competition of the festival featured 19 films, mainly “Asteroid City” directed by Wes Anderson and “Perfect Days” by Wim Wenders. Wenders will present two films at once in Cannes – the Anselm documentary about German artist Anselm Kiefer. The festival’s non-competition program will feature Martin Scorsese’s Flower Moon Killers, Sam Levinson’s Idol series and more.
Jeanne Dubarry, played by Johnny Depp, will open the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. Swedish director Ruben Östlund, who won the Palme d’Or with his films “Square” and “Triangle of Sorrow”, will preside over the main competition jury. The film festival will take place from May 16-27.
