Masque, who is part of the Hachette publishing group that publishes Christie’s books, said offensive language about the characters’ physiques and backgrounds will be removed from the books. As explained by the publisher, this is done “to bring the books in line with other international publications”.
Formerly HarperCollins crossed out Words about nationalities from Agatha Christie’s novel “Death on the Nile”: “Nubian boatman”, a woman with “gypsy appearance”. Some episodes were deleted because they were directly related to the game about racial and ethnic differences. In addition, a moment when a woman called children disgusting and doubted that she loved them was also omitted from the text.
