Shawshank Redemption star Morgan Freeman said he equally dislikes both the concept of “Black History Month” and the term “African American.” Transmits words deadline.
“Black History Month is an insult. You’re going to shorten my story to a month? <…> Freeman said the term “African American” is equally insulting.
According to him, blacks had different titles at different times. Therefore, he does not understand why it is customary to use such terminology in the United States. “What does it really mean? Most blacks in this part of the world are mixed breeds. You also say “Africa” as if it were a country. Whereas, this is the same continent as Europe,” Freeman said.
The actor described the representation of people from different social groups, nationalities and races on screens as a big step forward. “In terms of generations, I think we’re making big strides,” Freeman said.
