Director Klim Shipenko admitted in an interview with Vedomosti that shooting the movie Salyut-7 has become more difficult for him than working on The Challenge.
“As I mentioned earlier, it was difficult both psychologically and technically because this was not done in Russia. It was made in Hollywood, but with completely different technologies and budgets. The all-knowing Selyanov (producer Sergei Selyanov, – approx. “socialbites.ca”) later told me: “You will shoot this film, you will become one of the directors that can be counted on fingers,” said Shipenko.
According to the director, he was technically ready to shoot The Challenge on the ISS, but sometimes he had to improvise. For example, the team did not take into account the light from the porthole on the floor, which changes the shadows on the face on the camera: “There is a scene with Yulia. [Пересильд] It is located right next to the porthole and behind it is the sunset. And we see how the light is constantly changing hue like a rainbow. I had to get used to it too.”
The first screenings of the movie “Challenge” in Moscow began on April 12, Cosmonautics Day. The film will be released in wide theaters in Russia on April 20.
