“Meteor and Mr. Rabbit” (HarperCollins) may be a typical triumph or descent into hell autobiographical book, but none of that. The first literary work of Iván Ferreiro, Co-created with psychologist and writer María Rod, the film combines fact and fiction to place us in a sort of 21st century “Alice in Wonderland” where the protagonist is out of his mind and has anxious dreams like Mark Renton in “Trainspotting” but without the intervening brown powder shots.
It has 365 pages in it. a great presence Leiva, with stellar looks by Lori Meyers, Rubén (formerly Pereza) or Noni from Eladio (from Los Seres Queridos). It is an entertaining work that includes philosophical facts such as “there is no reality” as well as surrealism. First of all, pay attention to the episode of the boxing match played on stage between Meteoro (Iván, as he didn’t interrupt) and Rabbit (Leiva by his last name).
About the core of the novel, which will be unveiled tomorrow Friday at El Corte Inglés in Vigo and at Club FARO on 12 May, Ferreiro says: “The publishers invited me to write the book.. I said I’m not a writer and they told me there was someone to write it down. They recommended me books about depression, about the lyrics (of the songs). I have always said that I am a songwriter, but not a poet. It’s a different technique.”
However, what Iván values and treasures is the plot: “It occurred to me to propose to María. who is my cousin and a great writer, make a science fiction autobiography. I should clarify that the bulk of the literature work belongs to María”.
“One day at ten o’clock Iván called me – Rod remembers – saying he was about to enter his concert in Cádiz and had the idea to write a book about his tour with Leiva in 2013. Land I said ‘okay’. I had to seize this opportunity.”
“I wanted a book about that tour, but gradually deviating from the truth,” says Ferreiro, as to whether they oscillated between fact and invention from the beginning. He also admits that the original idea was more bizarre: “I wanted a novel about international assassins with Leiva. the boss who killed the mayors and presidents of the world. It came to mind at a concert with Leiva. We had a dressing room for the two of us and every now and then I was like, ‘Chulo, will you go out because we have a meeting? He was in there talking to five guys from Sony to talk about promotions and stuff. It occurred to me that they might be dealing with something to mobilize international politics; However María was taking him into science fiction”.
Tour bullshit
“Actually, he explains that the first question I asked him about Leiva was how he met her. She didn’t quite know how to respond. She told me that musicians never meet at the same time. This is the first stage of the novel. We start talking realistically about how Iván and Leiva met so that when the tour arrives we’ll get into some ridiculous nonsense”, the absurd revealing behind-the-scenes adventures.
However, Ferreiro points out in a study that has ties to the work of Lewis Carroll that “reality is the pincers that hold fiction.”
Iguana and Lynch
But if we go back to the facts, many questions arise. Favorite joint as it says in the book La Iguana en Churruca? That’s the truth. I really enjoyed it there”, Iván replies. “There’s something David Lynch about showing a real scene from the viewer’s point of view. it can be a nightmare“, To add.
Regarding Leiva’s view of the project, Ferreiro is “very generous in allowing it to be manipulated by us. He has read the first four chapters. Very well received. We sent him the book, but I don’t know if he read it because he was too busy. We just wanted to use”. “But we dedicated it to her to make her happy,” adds María Rod with a laugh.
Iván uses the opportunity to send a message to the readers so that they do not take literally everything that appears in the work, especially when it comes to his relationship with his children. There is a passage in those pages where Leiva spent the weekend with the Ferreiro family. Iván seems disconnected, overwhelmed, without much dialogue with his cubs, who lamented that when they returned to their mother on Sunday, it was the best day of their lives because they were with Leiva.
Concerned about whether this was the case, Iván explains that a fan sent him a private message on Instagram: “I told him it wasn’t true, but it could happen. The book talks about an imaginary relationship I had with my children.”. “Children are very ungrateful at some stages of their lives,” María exclaims.
