Johnny Depp and the director of the historical drama “Jeanne DuBarry” Meiwenn have been accused of assaulting a journalist, Variety reports.
On April 7, Edwy Plenel, editor-in-chief of the French magazine Mediapart, sued the director. In her lawsuit, Plenel alleges that Maiwenn assaulted her while dining at a restaurant in Paris at the end of February 2023.
Maiwenn, who allegedly sat alone at a nearby table, allegedly approached her desk, grabbed her hair, and spat in her face without a word.
Plenel insists she was “deeply traumatized by this event”. Understanding the reasons for the director’s action, Variety points out that in the past Mediapart magazine has published a number of sensational research articles about Maivenn’s ex-wife, director Luc Besson. These publications provided evidence of Besson’s guilt in a series of violent acts of a sexualized nature.
Maiwenn and Besson were married for five years, from 1992 to 1997. Maivenn was 16 and Besson 33 at the time of marriage. The ex-spouses have a common daughter named Shanna Besson.
It was recently learned that Maiwenn’s new movie, “Jeanne DuBarry,” will be filming the historical drama starring Johnny Depp. will open Upcoming 76th Cannes Film Festival.
