Disney Channel has released a video in which actor Dwayne Johnson announces a new project based on the animated movie Moana.

The artist also announced on Twitter that he has started working on a feature film. “I’m announcing that we’re bringing Moana’s beautiful story to the big screen! Maui has changed my life (I miss you) and I am honored to partner with Disney to tell our story through music and dance.”

Production timelines and plot details for the full-length remake of Moana are unknown. The new film will be produced by Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia of Seven Bucks Productions, and Beau Flynn of Flynn Picture Co.

The 2016 animated movie Moana was a hit for Disney, grossing over $680 million at the box office. In the cartoon, Dwayne Johnson voices the demigod Maui. The actor was chosen for the role not only because of his impressive size, but also because of his mother’s ancestry. In recognition of his services to the Samoan people and his distant relationship with Samoan chiefs, Johnson received the title of Seiuli from Tanumafili II of Malietoa.
