Louis Garrel has long ceased to be ‘Philippe Garrel’s son’. Having a father who left such a marked mark on independent French cinema can be a problem when you consider directing as well as acting. Louis wisely moved away from Philippe’s style and themes, creating a very personal piece that oscillates between comedy and drama in just a few years. In ‘El inocento’, he also offers a juicy thought about interpretation, which is his art, the art of pretending to be someone he is not, of assuming that he is saying something while expressing something else.

Four characters and a daring plot are all it takes to create a story that goes from serious to fun gameplay with absolute precision.. A mature woman taking acting lessons in prison. The prisoner he fell in love with. Son of woman battered by his mother’s sudden marriage to convicted man. And a friend of his son, who was also a close friend of his wife, died in the tragic circumstances in which he tiptoed. There are several sequences in which actors play characters they pretend to be playing, and so, without seeming like a thoughtful reflection, in a somewhat bizarre heist to spur things on, Garrel speaks highly of Louis’ own work and relationships. this performance is established with life.
