The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan (Les trois mousquetaires: D’Artagnan), dir. Martin Bourbulon – from April 6
A new film adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ adventure novel with a remake of the title: now mainly the story of three musketeers in which D’Artagnan appears on his life path. The main roles in the film are played by all world French stars: Vincent Cassel, Eva Green, Louis Garrel and Romer Duris.
Martin Bourboulon, responsible for the new film reincarnation of Dumas’ novel, who published the biographical “Eiffel” a few years ago and is preparing for the premiere of “The Three Musketeers: Milady”, the sequel to D’Artagnan’s adventures.
“Magic Services Bureau” (“Portable Door”), dir. Geoffrey Walker – April 6
More recently, Christoph Waltz’s protagonist was a nightmare for IT professionals on the show. “Advisor”and now he is the ‘victim’ of all kinds of demons in the family fantasy ‘Bureau of Magical Services’.
At the center of the story are two young interns who get a job at a mysterious London firm. Gradually it becomes clear that the matter will not be limited to clerical work only, and that the battle before the heroes will be not with boring business reports, but with magical powers, and their main weapons will be ingenuity, courage and mutual assistance.
“Personal Life” (“Love Life”), dir. Koji Fukada – from April 6
A touching Japanese drama-poem about the manipulation of time: how the past can interfere with our present and with it determine the future. The main character, Taeko, lived a calm and measured life with her husband and son. But suddenly on the threshold of her house, her ex-husband and father of the child, the deaf Makoto, appear. External deafness determines the inability of former spouses to hear each other in other areas of life. But Makoto needs help, and Taeko’s response to her request has the most unexpected consequences.
The painting “Private Life” – a participant of last year’s Venice Film Festival. The tape went home without an award, but to an enthusiastic world press, she confessed her love for the film in every way.
“Return to Seoul” (“Retour à Séoul”), dir. Davi Chow – from April 13
Another Asian apple at the April box office, participating in the world film review – this time at the Cannes Film Festival (the picture was presented in the Un Certain Regard program).
“Back to Seoul” is a meditative film about a journey through time and memory. The main character, Freddie, is a 25-year-old Korean woman who grew up in a French foster family. The girl goes to her hometown, trying to find her biological family and understand herself.
The Waves, directed by Mikhail Brashinsky – from April 13
Reflections on what’s left are appropriate for home theater. After a terrible tragedy, the hero of the painting “Waves” leaves his former life. However, the familiar world of people does not leave him, he plunges into the solitude he chose, offering new opportunities.
Unexpectedly, the hero finds a new home where he finds peace, love and answers to all his questions. But was he wrong about the choice and how to figure out exactly where your home and place of power are?
“Land of Alcarras” (“Alcarràs”), dir. Carla Simon Pipo – from April 16
If “Private Life” and “Return to Seoul” fell short of the film festival awards, the Italian-Spanish drama “Land of Alcarraz” received the main Berlinale award in 2022.
The film is about a close-knit farming family growing peaches in a small Catalan village. But the usual serene world collapses when the head of the estate dies and a prudent business claims to be the reason for his entire life, ready to raze both the house where multiple generations grew up and the peach orchard. According to Chekhov’s laws, it is not only a fertile land, but also a symbol of human happiness: fragile and temporary.
Challenge, director. Klim Shipenko – from April 20
A grandiose space drama by Klim Shipenko, starring Yulia Peresild. The protagonist, Zhenya, is a surgeon who must prepare in a short time to go to the space station, where an astronaut will have to fight for his life.
However, where physical education successfully copes, everyone is almost destroyed by inner indecision and fear. But the cosmos does not forgive weakness, and therefore Zhenya herself must overcome and save those who need her so much.
Misanthrope, director. Damian Sifron – from April 20
The wonderful movie almanac “Wild Tales” is a new exciting thriller from the author of Damian Sifron. This time, events unfold on New Year’s Eve in Baltimore, where a mysterious killer-maniac is operating.
A brave team led by Shailene Woodley and Ben Mendelsohn must catch the criminal. Misanthrope is a fast-paced and gripping film about a cunning villain and resourceful cops in pursuit.
Elizabeth II (Elizabeth: A Portrait in Part(s), dir. Roger Michell – from April 20
A hooligan documentary by Roger Michell, director of Notting Hill and Good Morning. Michell, who died in 2021, II. He managed to complete Elizabeth’s last work, which describes her life, before her death. As the main texture, the director uses hundreds of hours of documentary history from different years: from the young queen’s new accession to her venerable age.
However, the author, II. Elizabeth’s approach to Michell, looking at her life from an unexpected angle, allows us to see in her a living person, not a monument made during her lifetime and an official figure of the state: smiling and sad, confused and determined in her decisions, and most importantly – the necessary human-faced leader in the queen. He admired millions of people who sought and found it.
“More than people” (“Simulant”), dir. April Mullen – from April 27
April Mullen’s sci-fi thriller is set in a near future where humanity is forced to coexist with androids. The robotic miracle was created with the best of intentions – computerized creatures take the appearance of our deceased loved ones, thereby helping to recover from loss. But the widowed heroine Faye notices strange behavior behind her android that warns of the irreversibility of future events.
The movie stars Avatar star Sam Worthington, Marvel star Simu Liu, and Fast & Furious family protector Jordana Brewster.
