The “Music Without Borders” concert was held at the Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater in Minsk. life.ru.

The event coincided with the 150th anniversary of Sergei Rachmaninov and the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia, which will be celebrated tomorrow. The main element of the program was the famous Second Symphony. It was performed by the Belarusian Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Russian Bolshoi Theater guest conductor Alexei Bogorad. An outstanding cellist, St. Petersburg House of Music, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Sergei Roldugin was invited as a special guest.

“It is very symbolic that the birthday of the great composer coincided with the eve of a glorious holiday, the Day of Unity of our peoples. After all, nothing brings people together like the great power of creativity. “Today’s concert is the fruit of the creative inspiration of Russian and Belarusian musicians,” said Belarusian Minister of Culture, Anatoly Markevich, before the concert.

According to him, Rachmaninov, like a whole galaxy of sons of the Russian land, is the common heritage of peoples, a unique pianist, conductor and composer. As the head of the Belarusian Ministry of Culture noted, the work of the outstanding Russian musician formed the basis for the development of Russian and Belarusian music of the 20th century.

Union State Secretary Dmitry Mezentsev pointed out that this concert is one of the events dedicated to the Day of Unity, and “very meaningful events” are held in Moscow and Minsk. He noted that the week before the April 2 celebration began with a meeting of the State of the Union Council of Ministers dedicated to “concrete practical work”.
