The director of the detective drama “Aita” Stepan Burnashev admitted that he will not move from Yakutia to Moscow to work on projects with a larger budget. The filmmaker shared this in an interview with socialbites.ca.
“I love my home. Here is my family: children, parents and friends. Moving is a big decision for everyone. Of course, I could easily decide to work in Moscow temporarily, but I probably don’t want to do it forever. I feel comfortable at home,” said Burnashev.
The cinematographer admitted that he partly filmed Aita with the proceeds from the sale of the car and the loan: “It turned out that I sold the car and used the money in the shooting process. As for loans, unfortunately it always was, but I hope to pay off all my debts soon.
According to Burnashev, the federal Ministry of Culture has not yet allocated a subsidy for filming to any producers from Yakutia. “Only for projects produced by those from Moscow. The natives were just co-producers in such projects. <…> At the same time, we have the Ministry of Culture and Spiritual Development of the Republic of Sakha, which since 2020 has allocated 80 million rubles each. The annual result is 20-25 million, some are supported, some are not.”
Ruby director Stepan Burnashev’s drama “Aita” was released in Russian cinemas on March 30. The film has already received two awards for Best Director and Best Actor at the Zimniy Film Festival.
