Finnish company Moomin Characters has banned the use of Moomin images in Russia. It has been reported VPost.
Due to sanctions and position, the company no longer grants a license to the Russian Federation to use the characters. Representatives of the firm said that they suspended cooperation with Russia “in connection with what is happening in the world”. Instead of Moomin trolls, Russian companies were offered to use Cheburashka as “a very popular option right now”.
“Afimall”, “Spring Moomin Festival” are planned in the Moscow shopping center. The event was supposed to take place this week, but had to be canceled due to copyright.
Moomin trolls first appeared in the works of Finnish writer Tove Jansson. He founded Moomin Characters in 1958 with his brother Lars, a company still run by members of the Jansson family. There are several versions of the stories about the adventures of the Moomins.
Throughout his life, Jansson allowed other authors to use Moomins in their works. Harald Sonesson used characters for his books and illustrated the works himself.
