“This is the order of the Ministry of Culture, it comes into effect at the beginning of next season. We are now in a transition period. We play almost all the performances we have in Russian. We do not install new ones. We are playing until the end of the season, after this season we will not play them anymore,” he said.
He also noted that the ministry has instructed the Mikhail Chekhov Riga Russian Theater, which is currently performing only three performances for children, “to provide children with a repertoire in their mother tongue.”
The Latvian Ministry of Culture announced that as of September 1, the transition of education only to the Latvian language began, so the theater “gradually transitioned” to it only.
