“Scientific thinking has been developing rapidly due to the increased focus on Ukrainian culture and history since the start of the Russian occupation in 2022,” said museum director Max Hollein.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art also revised its classification of three 19th-century artists – Ilya Repin, Arkhip Kuindzhi and Ivan Aivazovsky – to draw attention to their Ukrainian roots.
