Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin congratulated artist Boris Messerer on his birthday. congratulatory telegram published on the official website of the mayor and the government of the capital.
Sobyanin called the People’s Artist of Russia an outstanding artist and set designer. “You make a great contribution to the development of national culture and the development of classical theater and decorative arts traditions. Your original artistic ideas were brilliantly embodied in the design of the performances of Moscow’s leading theaters and contributed to the success of the productions with the people of the capital,” wrote the mayor.
Boris Messerer has created scenography for more than 150 performances of dramas, ballets and operas staged at the Moscow Sovremennik Theatre, the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre, the Russian Bolshoi Theatre, the Moscow Academic Theater of Satire and others. In addition, Messerer was an animator, book designer and author of folk costumes. The artist was awarded the IV degree of the Russian Academy of Arts “For Services to the Fatherland” and the gold medal of Friendship, as well as the Order of Honor.
