Trio of Spanish jazz masters meet in Villena

The three most relevant figures of the national jazz of the moment –Javier Colina, Marc Miralta and Perico Sambeat– will afford it Friday, March 17 inside Villena Culture House (KAKV) group CMS trioalso 8:30 p.m. in collaboration with the concert Valencian Music Institute.

CMS trio was introduced at the fair year 2007 for the general public when they record “The Hill Miralta Sambeat Trio” (Contrabaix, 2007), one of the best-selling albums in our country and nominated for the best jazz album at the 2008 Music Awards, the album includes ten songs, two of which are Sambeat, and three of which are with trio members; and seven other versions Monk, Coltrane, Kurt Weill, Cole Porter, Tico Arnedo, Marcelino Guerra and even the Beatles.

After the recording and musical success of this debut album and more than 50 concerts in two years, bop, latin and flamenco filled with passion and creativity.

Six years later, they reunited to record their third album. “Guana Dance” (Karonte, 2015) is woven with the magical elements of jazz, Latin standards and popular root music colored with African, Colombian and even flamenco rhythms and colors.

He started music at the age of six, entering the jazz world at the age of eighteen by organizing local bands, until he was awarded a scholarship to study at the New School of the New School in 1991. javier hill (double bass) was born in Pamplona in 1960. We are undoubtedly one of the best double bass players on the contemporary stage. At the age of 8, he learned to play the accordion by himself, and then guitar, flute, saxophone, piano and finally double bass. He also plays percussion and various South American string instruments.

After starting jazz with some formations from his hometown of Navarra and the Basque Country, he would soon join the national stage as a sideman, accompanying famous national and international names such as: Georges Cables, Gary Bartz, Hank Jones, John Hicks, Louis Bellson and Chucho Valdés, among others.

Javier Colina has never been committed to just one musical style, traveling with his unique style of double bass playing, accompanying musicians from different styles and origins. Tomatito, El Bola, Pepe Habichuela, Diego El Cigala or Enrique Morente, Compay Segundo or Bebo Valdés with whom he would record his popular album “Lágrimas Negras”. Also, singer and composer Silvia Pérez Cruz highlights her enduring involvement of over a decade with the 2022 National Music Award.

marc miralta (batteryHe was born in 1966 in Barcelona. He started playing drums at the age of 7 and took his first lessons from drummer Pau Bombardó at the age of 12. Trained in the most prestigious centers both nationally and internationally, he is also a great drummer, an expert in Hindu tabla, flamenco cajon and vibraphone interpretation.

He participated in E festivals and clubs.With musicians like Pat Metheny, Gary Burton, Spain, United States, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Argentina, France, Italy, Austria, Germany, Netherlands, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Portugal, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Tunisia, Israel, Morocco and Angola, Wynton Marsalis, Steve Lacy, Paquito D’Rivera, Tete Montoliú, Art Farmer, George Garzone, Jerry Bergonzi and Mark Turner.

He took part in the recording of more than fifty albums with various formations. He received more than twenty awards during his music career. Berklee College of Music Award for Best Percussionist (1991).

He has worked as a drum teacher at Taller de Músics and has given numerous drumming courses in San Sebastián, Cádiz, Sedaví, Granollers, Igualada, Zarautz, Rousse (Bulgaria), Lagnau (Switzerland) and Seville. He is currently professor of drums and vibraphone at Liceu in Barcelona.
