Greek poet and playwright Alexis Parnis died on March 10 at the age of 99. TASS Referring to the newspaper Efimerida ton Syntakton.
The prose writer’s cause of death has not been disclosed, but it is known that Parnis will be buried in Greece on March 13.
One of the most famous works of the playwright is the play “The Last Night of Athens”, also known as “The Island of Aphrodite”, which was staged at the Maly Theater in 1960, after which it became a real theatrical hit in the USSR. It was shown in dozens of cinemas across the country.
Parnis is also the author of the play Dry Island, the drama Bridgehead, the poetry collection The Heart of Greece, the novels Corrector, Pasternak Avenue, and Everyone Has Their Own Prague.
The works of Alexis Parnis have been translated into Russian, Belarusian, English, Polish, Romanian, Albanian and Chinese.
