Street art artist Ivan Simonov’s “Text as Landscape” exhibition opens in Moscow

Russian street artist Ivan Simonov’s new exhibition “Text as Landscape” opened at the pop/off/art gallery in Moscow. In a comment to socialbites.ca, the author of the project said that on display are train windows, doors, mats, fabrics and other items supported by text.

“In this project, I take techniques that have already been used and develop them into a single logical chain, complementing them with text. Life is one of our languages, the undisguised reality in which we exist,” said Simonov.

According to the author, he combined the art objects, videos, paintings and graphics he created for the exhibition with the theme of language as a reflection of culture.

“It is important for me to show my attitude towards reality through the text, using it as a technique to explore and ‘break’ cultural codes,” the artist added.

In his works, Simonov reveals the interaction of humans with the environment and their effects on each other through text and his own documentary photographs. He gained fame with his street art projects #littlepeople and “Sold”. Simonov’s works Petersburg, the Copelouzos Family Art Museum in Greece, the Winzavod Foundation, the Radiance Center for Contemporary Art, and the PERMM Museum of Contemporary Art.
