According to the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Russia and India are united by “a firm commitment to the establishment of a more just and democratic polycentric world order.” Countries, he continued, are consistent opponents of neo-colonial practices. “Like illegitimate unilateral sanctions, threats, blackmail, other forms of pressure on sovereign states. We advocate respect for the cultural and civic diversity of the modern world and the right of people to determine their own destiny independently.”

It is known that Tolstoy and Gandhi corresponded, although they did not meet in person. In his autobiography, Gandhi wrote of the influence of the Russian writer on him.
