Anton Butakov, general director of the Center for Contemporary Drama (CSD) in Yekaterinburg, complained about the lack of support from the authorities. His social media post quotes ura.ru.
According to him, the cultural institution does not receive a governor’s grant. “Many people are very surprised that we exist without the help of the state. We did not receive grants this season. Even the governor in Dovlatov (if you knew what kind of shit nobody needed this year),” Butakov said.
TsSD, he continued, will have 37 performances in March, two of which are premieres, despite the lack of budget funding.
Anton Butakov has been the chief director of the Center for Contemporary Drama since 2017 and a member of the Kolyada Theater group since 2008. In July 2021, during the anti-coronavirus restrictions, he appealed to the Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region, Yevgeny Kuyvashev, with a request to transfer an empty building in the city to the free use of CSD.
