The installation of the “Tour” statue in the Lithuanian city of Kaunas on February 24, which cost the city €176,000, was criticized by the country’s Minister of Culture, Simonas Kairis. Reported by Delphi.

“The Kaunas were excellent. On the day the world commemorates the anniversary of the start of the war in Ukraine, when Lithuanians showed solidarity and incredible unity in the RADAROM action all day, dear Kaunas erected a statue of the tour, like Krasnodar’s twin brother. (but the project has not yet been implemented there),” Kairis wrote on social networks.

Kairis was supported by Kaunas City Council candidate Dainoras Lukas, Advisor to the Minister of Science, Education and Sports. He emphasized that before the monument was erected, the mayor’s office was not interested in the opinion of the townspeople.

The sculpture “Tour” depicts an animal and a Latin cross, as on the coat of arms of the city, approved in 1915. The mayor of Kaunas, Visvaldas Matiyoshaitis, said that this feature should be displayed not only on the coat of arms, but also in the public areas of the city.
