Spanish-Mexican director Guillermo del Toro will write and direct a puppet cartoon based on the fantasy novel The Buried Giant by Japanese-British writer Kazuo Ishiguro. Like Del Toro’s other puppet project Pinocchio, the movie will air on the Netflix streaming service.
Dennis Kelly, creator of the conspiracy thriller Utopia and the mystical horror movie The Third Day, will work with Del Toro on the script for The Buried Giant.
Kazuo Ishiguro’s book is set in fictional medieval England after the reign of King Arthur. The main characters – Axel and Beatrice – an old couple from a small village, shrouded in a mysterious fog, because the inhabitants lose their memory and can even forget what happened to them an hour ago. Axel and Beatrice embark on a dangerous journey to find their long lost son.
Previously Guillermo del Toro has reportedly found an actor to play Frankenstein.
