HBO Max has ordered a multi-episode prequel to director Muschietti’s ‘It’

A multi-part prequel to the horror movie is in development on the HBO Max streaming service. According to this THR, the project is produced by the original film’s directors Andres Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs. It has been noted that Andres Muschietti will definitely shoot several episodes of the series, including the pilot episode. The working title of the show was “Welcome to Derry”.

“As teenagers, we read chapters of Stephen King’s It in sequence until the thick paperback shattered,” Muschietti said in a statement. “It’s an epic story that includes so many things that go far beyond what we can do in our movies. We can’t wait to share the depth of Steve’s romance with all his heart, humor, humanity and horror.”

It is known that the plot of the series will unfold in the 1960s, after the awakening of the monster It. The show will reveal the secret of the origin of the clown Pennywise and tell the mysteries of the city of Derry.

There are no other details about the project, including the cast. It is unknown if actor Bill Skarsgard will return to the famous Pennywise role.

IT movies broke box office records with the sequel making $700 million worldwide in 2017 and $473 million in 2019.
