st. The Russian Museum in St. Petersburg has completed a comprehensive restoration of Konstantin Makovsky’s painting “People’s Festival During the Shrovetide on Admiralteyskaya Square in St. Petersburg” and its historical frame. In this respect informs “Russian newspaper”.
On the eve of the 2023 Pancake Week celebrations, the painting was displayed in the Garden Entrance Hall. During the restoration, the frame of the painting was restored, which was previously included in the permanent exhibition of the Mikhailovsky Palace, as well as in temporary exhibitions.
In 2010, the original frame was replaced with a temporary frame due to insufficient protection. The Russian Museum cleaned the dirt, strengthened the base and compensated for the loss of the frame. “The restorers of the Russian Museum have completed the hard work of restoring Konstantin Makovsky’s painting. “Now the audience will be able to see the canvas as the artist intended,” said Olga Babina, Deputy Director General for Accounting, Storage and Restoration of Museum Treasures.
The work came to the Russian Museum from the Gatchina Palace in 1897. The business is now over 150 years old.
