Oncologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences Igor Dolgopolov in an interview with kp.ru made an assumption about the life of actress Anastasia Zavorotnyuk after discharge from the cancer clinic.
He noted that when a person like Zavorotnyuk lived with cancer for four years, doctors simply did not use standard treatment methods. “What’s the story of glioblastoma: There is no official second-line treatment for this disease. This means that if a patient has had surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy but has had a relapse, there is no standard treatment regimen. Then the art begins,” he said.
According to the doctor, the artist’s health depends on the size of his unknown tumor. “If the tumor occupied half the brain, then of course the person was initially crippled. And if the glioblastoma is small and has been successfully removed, the person leads a normal life. And his disease is no more pronounced than, for example, in a patient with arthritis. “In general, patients with central nervous system tumors have a reduced quality of life, of course, but most are self-serving.”
In the case of Zavorotnyuk, rehabilitation can be important. “During rehabilitation, motor activity, speech, reading, writing, social and psychological harmony are restored. Even virtual reality is used: for example, in special glasses, a person “shoots” some objects with his eyes to improve coordination of movements. These are completely complex programs – a completely different world that can bring the patient back to life, ”the doctor concluded.
In the summer of 2019, news began to appear in the media about a possible brain tumor (glioblastoma) in Zavorotnyuk. There was no official confirmation of this information from his family, but the diagnosis was indirectly confirmed by doctors during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2020, during a meeting on the development of genetic technologies.
