HE Council of Ministers next Tuesday, the Aragonese filmmaker and creator will be awarded the Grand Cross of the Civil Order of Alfonso X the Wise. Carlos Saura for his “indisputable contribution to Spanish culture and art” and “one of the most important artists in the history of Spain”.
Saura passed away this Friday, aged 91, in Madrid, one day before receiving the Goya honorary award at the Film Academy awards ceremony.
“Spain is saying goodbye to Carlos Saura, but we have an endless filmography left, work to return to and this represents the best in the history of art and creation in Spain.. The history of consistency, freedom, risk and commitment to one’s country, world and art” was emphasized in the statement made by the Presidency.

As Camarón has worked with Paco de Lucía, Vittorio Storaro, Rafael Azcona, Daniel Baremboin or Buñuel, he adds that reading his biography is also reviewing the history of contemporary art.
