American cable channel Starz is developing a sequel reboot of the first hit series Spartacus, which aired from 2010 to 2013. This was reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Spartacus creator Steven S. DeKnight will write the script for a new project that will “expand” the original series and act as showrunner.
The series “Spartacus” retells the story of Spartacus, the leader of one of the largest slave and gladiator uprisings in the Roman Republic. The show’s first season, subtitled “Blood and Sand”, aired on Starz in January 2010 and quickly gained popularity with viewers. However, production of the second season was delayed after lead actor Andy Whitfield was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. It was then decided to give the actor time for treatment and to film the mini-series Spartacus: Gods of the Arena. However, Whitfield’s illness soon returned, and on September 11, 2011, the actor died. The next two seasons, Spartacus: Vengeance and Spartacus: War of the Damned, starred Liam McIntyre.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, citing a Starz press release, the upcoming series will chronicle the aftermath of the slave army’s defeat, devoting its plot to “a new tale of betrayal, deception, and blood, a new story unfolding in sinister shadow.” Rome.”
