Director James Cameron admitted that young artist Jack Dawson, the character of actor Leonardo DiCaprio in the 1997 disaster movie Titanic, may still survive the death of the famous ship. According to Rolling Stone, this came about as part of an experiment where the cinematographer accurately recreated the ending of the tape.
Viewers will be able to see the experiment for themselves with the James Cameron special episode, which will air on NatGeo on February 5th.
“We launched the Titanic 25 years ago. But while we do our best to make the movie as believable as possible, one thing fans cannot accept is that Jack insisted he would have survived had he climbed that floating piece with Rose.”
To definitively close this issue, the director enlisted the help of two stuntmen, whose skin color is the same as the heroes of DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Studying the effects of cold on the human body, Dr. It was carried out in Jim Kotter’s New Zealand laboratory. The participants, whose bodies were cooled to 35 degrees, were placed in a pool along with a replica of the shipwreck from the movie. Cameron also forced the stuntmen to repeat all the moves of the characters in the picture they made before Rose climbed the makeshift raft.
Eventually, both were able to climb onto the floating wreckage and find a stable position only with their feet partially submerged. After that, Cameron admitted that Jack and Rose could hold out in that position for several hours before the rescuers arrived, provided that Rose gave the life jacket to Jack.
At the same time, Cameron stressed that such an outcome would be unlikely, as success would depend on so many variables and Jack wouldn’t put much of Rosa’s life at risk.
“Based on what I know today, I would have downsized the raft for the avoidance of doubt,” the director concluded.
Previously Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of the Water is the sixth film in history to exceed $2 billion.
