Artificial intelligence was able to identify that the famous Spanish playwright Lope de Vega (1562-1635) is the author of the hitherto anonymous play “French Woman Laura” from the Manuscript Collection of the National Library of Spain (BNE). It gives information about EL Pais With a link to the website of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).
The AI compared the text of the play with the texts of hundreds of other comedies from the Spanish Golden Age (XVI – early XVII centuries). The greatest similarity between the Frenchwoman Laura was found with other plays by Lope de Vega. They used almost the same counter.
The original manuscript of the comedy has not survived. The French woman Laura has survived from the original or even another copy from the end of the 17th century. Different parts were even rewritten in different handwriting.
Professor Herman Vega believes that the surviving manuscript served as a script for theatrical ensembles, with corresponding notes in the margins of the play.
Lope de Vega is a Spanish poet, prose writer and playwright, an outstanding representative of Spain’s Golden Age. He was born in 162 in the family of a jeweler.
