Grant is best known for his role in the 1987 movie Withnail & Me. He said of his appointment: “It is a great honor for me to attend the Bafta ceremony for the first time.”
Jane Millichip, CEO of Bafta, also said about the new host: “We are fortunate to have an amazing cast of hosts for our 2023 Bafta Film Awards, all of whom oozing intelligence, charm and warmth. I can’t wait to see Richard Grant take the stage. He is also highly respected by his colleagues.”
Other famous presenters on the show included Stephen Fry, who announced that he would be retiring in 2018 after hosting 12 ceremonies.
Her successor, Joanna Lumley, was heavily criticized for her two shows. Graham Norton and Rebel Wilson also struggled with hosting the Bafta.
This year, host Vic Hope and film critic Ali Plumb will present a portion of the Bafta red carpet show, which will be broadcast live on Bafta social media and will feature interviews with the nominees and other special guests.
The ceremony will end with a live broadcast for the first time and the winners of the last four categories will be announced, and viewers will be able to instantly see the reactions of the nominees and winners. In previous years, the ceremony was recorded and broadcast on the same day.
