Streaming service Paramount+ has commissioned the production of a series based on the tabletop fantasy role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons (“Dungeons & Dragons” or D&D for short), writes Deadline.

According to the broadcast, the filming of a full season consisting of eight episodes at once has been “green lighted”. The script was written by Rawson Marshall Thurber, author of the action “Red Notice” starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot. He will also direct the first episode.

Also on March 31, Paramount Pictures will release the feature film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Between Thieves starring Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis and Hugh Grant.

Dungeons & Dragons was released in 1974 and quickly gained cult status. In it, a group of players go through various missions, interact with the outside world and participate in battles. The course of the game is controlled by the server, the “master of the dungeon” who acts as the storyteller and judge. A distinctive feature of “Dungeons and Dragons” was the use of dice with a large number of faces.

The series and the Paramount movie are not the first cases of movie adaptations of the game: in the 80s, the animated series Dungeon of the Dragons was shot, and in 2000 a feature film of the same name was released, which was later received. two sequels.

Previously Critics reportedly praised the series based on the game “The Last of Us.”
